St. Mary's Cathedral was founded in 1168 by King Donal Mor O'Brien on the site of his Palace and is the oldest building in daily use in Limerick City today. Long before that date, the Vikings had built their 'Thingmote' or meeting place on the site. The points of interest include a Romanesque West Door, Misericorde choir stalls, purpose built at the end of the 14th century, a Pre-Reformation alterstone, a leper squint window and many stained glass windows and interesting monuments.
