Indian background music contributes to the atmosphere and the orange theme is continued in stylish modern (distinctly Indian) decor and on promptly presented, clearly laid out menus, which offer an unusual combination of Indian and Thai cuisine. Each dish on the menu is explained and dishes suitable for vegetarians - and also wheat-free dishes - indicated. The feeling is there is a stronger leaning towards authentic Indian food, than the Thai dishes offered; mango chutney, lime pickle and minted yoghurt are provided on tables and food is presented on steel plates – as you would find if ordering a thali in India.
Some combination platters are offered, and also some less usual dishes - an Indian starter of paneer rolls, for example, is made of home-made Indian cheese mixed with potatoes, bread-crumbed and fried, while podina chicken is flavoured with mint and coriander. Saag meat - which one might expect to be beef, but here it is lamb - comes with a tasty, sharply flavoured spinach sauce and an unusual type of naan bread, rather thin to mop up juices.
This stylish restaurant offers a different experience from other ethnic restaurants in the city, and gives value for money. It would be a particularly good choice for anyone with a preference for a meat-free meal as the range of vegetarian dishes offered is wide - and the dessert menu contains many homemade ethnic asian desserts, a nice touch at the end of your meal. A fairly priced wine list offers a balanced selection of world wines, and a good choice of Asian beers.
