Home to a wide array of education institutions and facilities, Limerick has a variety of courses to suit every age, level and educational orientation. As a participant in TELS (Towards a European Learning City), Limerick acknowledges the role of learning in the development of Limerick and its inhabitants. At both primary and secondary level, Limerick has a wide range of schools for pupils between the ages of 4 and 18. These are added to by special interest schools such as the Islamic Cultural Centre, Gaelscoileanna (Irish speaking) and specialist needs schools (e.g. schools for handicapped children). Limerick is home to some of Ireland's most reputed institutions for the provision of third level education, namely the University of Limerick, Mary Immaculate College, Limerick Institute of Technology and the Limerick School of Art and Design. The programmes on offer range from National Certificate to Doctorate and Post-Doctorate levels.
