Limerick Architecture
Limerick is an undiscovered City of significant architectural merit. Its Georgian architecture dominates the City and today its new architecture is facing the City towards the River Shannon. The houses in Pery Square are the finest example of Georgian Houses in the City, and possibly the Country. Number 2 is open to the public (note the cut limestone base and doorways). The Crescent, which was built in the early 1800s was built to be the principal feature in Edmund Sexton Pery’s Newtown development. The unique design of a double crescent is unusual, and is one of only a few examples of this type of architecture in Ireland or the UK. There are many books written on Limerick’s architecture and the Limerick Architects Forum run public lectures in the City Art Gallery in Pery Square.
