Aughinish Alumina, a subsidiary of Swiss-based natural resources group Glencore, is an alumina refinery situated on Aughinish Island on the south side of the Shannon estuary between Askeaton and Foynes, 20 miles downstream from Limerick City, Ireland. Aughinish Alumina produces 1.8 million tonnes per annum of alumina (Al2O3) by treating bauxite ore, using the Bayer process. Alumina is a fine white granular powder which is exported to aluminium smelters for processing into aluminium metal. Find out more about Aughinish Alumina by looking through our website.
