A pretty village in the picturesque valley, 10km. North of Abbeyfeale on the R.524 Road to Glin, Athea is built on the River Galey, a tributary of the River Feale and close to the Limerick - Kerry border. The area around is one of hills, moorland and mountain drives towards Carrigkerry to the East and Knockanure to the West, with Glin along the Shannon Estuary to the North.
