Ath An Choite - The Ford of The Angling 'Cott' or Small Boat.
Annacotty is a small village on the River Mulcair, named after an ancient crossing point over the river and a type of boat or 'cott' (the 'angling cotts' used by the Shannon Fishermen). The River Mulcair is an important salmon fishery and a major tributary of the River Shannon. Overlooking the salmon weir and waterfall are a number of attractive residential developments. The village is now bypassed by the N.7 the main Limerick - Dublin Road. Off the N.7 road a short distance to the right is the entrance to the Daughters of Charity, St. Vincent's Centre. Along the R.506 road to Cappamore can be seen the ruins of Clonkeen Church, which has an interesting Romanesque doorway. Close-by the village are the National Technology Park and the University of Limerick (see Castletroy section).
