Dun - The Fort.
The village of Doon is located on the Bilboa River near the Tipperary border, 3km from Cappamore on the Southern edge of the Slieve Feilm Mountains at the foot of Gortnageragh Hill (422m). Doon is very much associated with folklore with exploits of Eamon an Chonic (Eamon O'Riain) an 18th Century rapparee, said to be an officer in the Jacobite Army who took to the hills after the Treaty of Limerick (1691) to prey on English planters in North Tipperary. Those interested in exploring the countryside of East County Limerick will find much of interest in the surrounding hills and pleasant scenery along the Bilboa River.
