An Cheapach Mhor - The Big Tillage - Plot.
The village of Cappamore is located in the North-East County Limerick, between the two major routes, the N.7 Limerick - Dublin Road (at Annacotty) and the N.27 Limerick - Waterford Road (at Grange Cross, Boher). Cappamore lies in the foothills of the Slievefelim Mountains, a range of hills east of the village, and part of a large mountain area on the Limerick - North Tipperary border which includes the Silvermines and Keeper Hill. The Slieve Feilm Way, a 30km route for hill-walkers an a cycle route are signposted in the village. The two rivers in the area - the Mulcair and Bilboa - are noted for salmon and trout angling. Between Murroe village and Annacotty (on the N.7 Limerick - Dublin Road) is Barrington's Bridge, an elegant one arched metal bridge over the Mulcair River and built by Sir Matthew Barrington in 1818. It is probable that Sir Matthew may have introduced rugby football into Ireland from Rugby in England, where he was educated. The Barrington family resided at the nearby Glenstal Castle, now Glenstal Abbey (see Murroe).
