Baile Ui Argain - The Town of O hArgain.
Ballyorgan was once the trade village of the Oliver Estate. The forge, a cut stone building, is now an attractive dwelling. Many Palatines lived in the village (see also Rathkeale and Glenosheen). In the wood nearby nestle the wooden clad Ballyhoura Forest Homes providing self catering accommodation for visitors. Places of interest to visit are the Anglican Church (1812) at Kilflynn which was used by the Palatines with numerous headstones of their families in the adjoining graveyard. Also of interest is a Visitors Farm at Molanna (viewing is by appointment only), adjacent to The Ballyhoura Mountains where the owner gives visitors a guided tour and provides details of social and local history. The Ballyhoura Mountain Park with 10,000 hectares of mountain, woodlands and peat bog (bird-watching, walking routes, forest trails and orienteering) is also adjacent to Ballyorgan.
