Cappamore Agricultural Show is one of Ireland’s leading One Day Shows and is very highly regarded among exhibitors as well as regular Show supporters throughout the Munster region as well as nationally. The Show was founded in 1954 and has run continually since. There has only been one year throughout that period when the hardworking committee failed to mount a Show and even this was influenced by factors outside their own control. This happened in 2001 when there was a national animal health scare caused by an outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease and it was decided not to proceed with the Show as a precautionary measure and in keeping with best animal welfare advice. However, outside of this one regrettable break, the hardworking committee has hosted a very successful Show each year since its foundation.
This year, the Show Committee will host the 50th Show and plans for a spectacular event are well advanced. Details will be posted as soon as the preparations are finalised. A full listing of Show classes and special features will be featured on this site. A full listing of the results from the 2003 Show however will give an indication of the types of classes and categories at Cappamore Show.
To mark the occasion of the 50th Show, the Committee will publish a History of the Show and at this stage would welcome any memorabilia of early shows or items of historical interest. If you wish to provide information or support this venture, please contact secretary@cappamoreshow.com.
Cappamore Show has become an integral element of the social and cultural fabric of the East Limerick/ West Tipperary area and is a highlight of the Social calendar of the area each year. Set in the foothills of the Slieve Felim mountain range, the natural beauty of the area is complimented by a rich heritage and history. This event is perhaps unique in that it incorporates both displays and competitions in areas such as Cookery, Crafts, Agricultural and Horticultural produce and other areas that draw on the traditional skills, arts and crafts of the region, as well as more traditional Show sections such as Cattle and Horse showing and jumping classes.
Traditionally the Show was held in Cappamore village, but this year the event will be held on Wednesday 18th August at the Showgrounds, Bilboa Court, Bilboa, Cappamore for the third consecutive year. We really look forward to meeting you there!
